Hi, I'm Laura and I am the owner and operator of Acme Dog Services. I started Acme Dog Services in 2006 after I was laid off from my job in publishing. I decided it was the perfect time to start my own dog walking/pet sitting business. I knew what kind of care I required for my own pets and I wanted to provide the same quality care to others. I couldn't think of a better way to spend my work days.
I have loved and raised dogs my entire life. I have more than 20 years of experience in caring for and working with dogs. In high school and college, I raised guide dog puppies for Guide Dogs for the Blind in San Rafael, CA. It was a great experience to take a young puppy, socialize it to all the activity in the world, then see the dog eventually graduate to a working Guide Dog.
"We know any day that Winston and Bluebelle get to see Laura, they are happy."
A few years ago, I competed in agility with my yellow lab KC. Together we won several AKC titles. She was the best. More recently, I competed in frisbee competitions with my border collie, Pip. We were successful in winning second place at the annual Crusty Classic. KC and Pip have crossed the rainbow bridge, but they both have left me with loving, lasting memories.
Meet the Family
Currently, I have three four-legged-members of the family. My first small dog, Bounce, is my eight-year-old Chihuahua/Terrier. She is the best little dog and goes almost everywhere with me.
I also have my special needs dog, Sneakers. Sneakers is a double merle Australian Shepherd, meaning she was born deaf. Having a deaf dog has taught me a lot about different ways to communicate with my dog. Sneakers is my running buddy. She goes with me on all my runs and we compete in any race that allows dogs.
Finally is Captain Jack Sparrow, my 8-month-old kitten. Captain Jack also is a special needs pet. He has what is called CH syndrom, also known as wobbly syndrom. CH is a neurological condition similar to cerbral palsy in humans. Basically he looks like a drunk pirate, thus his name Captain Jack Sparrow.
All my pets are, and always have been, rescues. I also only use positive reinforcement methods with my dogs as well as with all of my clients' pets.
